3-Day Learn to Lead Ice Climbing Course

Location: North Conway, NH

Dates: January 10, 11, 12

Price: $900 per person

(Includes guide fees, all necessary technical equipment, and group gear.)

Day 1: Ice Climbing Fundamentals & Gear Overview

Morning:

• Meet and greet, followed by an introduction to ice climbing gear (crampons, ice axes, harnesses, helmets, and ice screws)

• Basic knots and belay systems for ice climbing

• Safety briefing and risk management discussion

Afternoon:

• Movement skills on ice: Learning to use your tools and crampons efficiently

• Practicing basic ice climbing techniques on low-angle ice

• Focus on foot placement, body positioning, and tool placement

End of Day Debrief: Recap of the day’s learning and an overview of the next day

Day 2: Building Anchors & Introduction to Lead Climbing

Morning:

• Anchor building fundamentals: Ice screw placements, v-threads, and building solid ice anchors

• Belay systems and managing the rope in an ice climbing scenario

Afternoon:

• Introduction to lead climbing: Practicing mock leads (leading while on top-rope for safety)

• Discussing fall factors, lead belaying techniques, and managing protection

End of Day Debrief: Detailed feedback on progress, safety tips, and goals for Day 3

Day 3: Lead Climbing on Ice

Morning:

• Full day of lead climbing on moderate routes under supervision

• Continuous practice of lead climbing techniques, placing screws, and maintaining calm and control during the climb

Afternoon:

• Advanced anchor setups and efficiency in transitions (belaying from above, lowering)

• Focus on smooth, efficient movement while leading

End of Day Wrap-Up: Course review, feedback, and final assessments

Additional Information:

Prerequisites: Previous ice climbing experience and a solid understanding of basic climbing knots and belay techniques are recommended.

Group Size: Limited to 4 participants to ensure personalized instruction and safety.
